Sunday’s CENTCOM post is a count. It is not a claim that the strait is open, and it is not the sanctions package.

U.S. Central Command wrote on X that USS John Finn (DDG-113) was in the Arabian Sea enforcing the blockade, and that as of Aug. 23 U.S. forces had “redirected 70 commercial vessels, disabled 3 and boarded 2 to ensure compliance.” Two days earlier the same account, citing USS Ross, had the redirect number at 68 with the same three disabled and two boarded. The new number is plus two ships. The command did not name the cargoes, the flags, or the destinations.

Fox spent Sunday on the next turn: more sanctions, and Iranian officials answering with “seismic” and “earthquake” language. Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said if Trump “take[s] action, our confrontation will be like an earthquake,” and that if neighboring countries join the economic war “not a drop of oil will leave the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz,” as reported by The Independent from Iranian remarks. That is a threat on tape. It is not a strike report.

President Trump has billed what comes next as economic warfare on an “unprecedented scale.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is still on the calendar for Monday to say what that means for oil, China, and secondary sanctions. This desk will print that paper when it exists. Until then the record is the Navy’s tally and Tehran’s warning.
