The wire opens: a newspaper for people who still want the record

Public News Choice is a dark broadsheet for independent journalists — not a feed of palace stenography.

There is a difference between news and theater. Theater arrives as a card, a clip, a quote ripped from a man on a stage and framed like a trophy. News arrives as a record: who did what, under whose authority, with which documents, and what it costs the public.

Public News Choice exists because the record has been fenced. Independent journalists still do the work — on Substack, on Rumble, in court basements, in FOIA queues that run for years — but the distribution layer belongs to firms that would rather you watch a reaction than read a filing.

This paper is built like a paper. The front page is the whole screen. When you open a story you are not dropped into a social embed. You are handed a broadsheet: headline, byline, dateline, and the body in columns, the way a free press used to trust its readers with more than a paragraph.

We will carry independent desks first. Not because every independent is right. Because the alternative — a handful of brands reciting the same language at the same hour — is not a press. It is a choir.

If you write, send the work. If you read, hold us to the standard we just named. The motto on the masthead is not decoration. From the people, not the palace.
